This one seems very much in the Edward Gorey realm:

It comes from an album that was lovingly put together sometime in the 1930s, nearly every page reflecting careful choices and precise placement, so that the images on a page tell some sort of coherent story. Sometimes the story is enigmatic, or even impossible to parse, as in this case. Why the retreating backs? What significance to the angles of view? It's the rightmost image that seems especially Goreyesque to me
but the whole construction is a bit creepy.

Her eye for composition is also seen in a number of other snapshots in this collection. We can only hope that her family appreciated her talent...
